Leadership Lessons: Recently, I found myself on the other side of the room – as a participant rather than a facilitator. When our session leader reminded us that “too many cooks in the kitchen” could derail our learning focus, I had a choice to make.
For a split second, I interpreted this as a call to stay quiet. Don’t share. Don’t contribute. But after sitting on it for a minute, it hit me – participation and learning are inseparable partners.
The ask wasn’t for silence; it was for balance.
The reward? An email from a colleague sharing how my measured contributions had sparked their own insights. (Whew, right choice).
So here’s my question for you: Are you holding back when you should be stepping forward? Or pushing ahead when you should be creating space?
The art lies in knowing the difference.
Stay Hungry –
Like King Solomon who asked for wisdom above all else, never stop learning, never stop questioning. Don’t let perceived silence dim your curiosity. The moment we think we know enough is the moment we stop growing.
Stay Humble –
Our journey is exactly that – a journey. While we may have valuable insights to share today, tomorrow holds countless more lessons. Acknowledge where you are, when you are, and how far you still have to go.
Make a Difference –
In every interaction, we have a choice. Are you a light that illuminates the path for others, or the breath that extinguishes their flame? The impact we make isn’t measured by how loud we speak, but by how well we lift others up.
How are you living this out? I hope you are, & I hope we can live it out better together.
